The lead into the 2016 vintage was dryer than yesterdays toast, which again brought flowering on earlier than the long term average. The new year brought some cooling rains which slowed ripening during the late summer months. A little more difficult to manage than the 2015 vintage, and perhaps not as stand out, but a vintage that produced solid quality red wines.
The fruit from the 2016 ‘Sfera’ Tempranillo was harvested from our Block 9. Machine harvested at night to retain freshness, before haulage to the winery.
Whole berry fermented with natural yeasts from the vineyard. This Tempranillo spent 21 days on skins enhancing the depth of natural tannin. Cherries and blackberries glide through the mid palate with a fresh hint of pomegranate bringing life to the wine!
The 2016 Tempranillo is more vibrant and bright than some of the old world counterparts - true to the Wirrega style!
